Awaken Your Wood Series:
In the Wood Element season, we learn to have a clear vision, a solid plan and how to become unstoppable, yet flexible, in the pursuit of realizing your vision.
Activate Your Vision
Do you connect to your vision every day?
That’s been my practice, and a habit I invite you to build so it's the first thing you do.
Right when you wake up, imagine your dream as fulfilled - your relationship, your new clients, prosperity - the key elements of your vision that you’re calling in. Feel the experience in your body of all needs being met fully, on time, in full.
My friend Michelle reminded me to introduce wonder and curiosity throughout the day. As you move about your day, ask yourself, "I wonder how I'll meet my next client?" "I wonder what my new sweetie likes to eat for breakfast?"
Pair this practice with affirmation and you're setting yourself up on a fast track to your vision. Speak statements that affirm and declare the good that's coming into your life, right now.
The energy of the Wood element harneses the power of the emotion of anger to manifest your desires. We are called to awaken our inner Wood Warrior Goddess, who is unstoppable in moving toward her dream.
Every time you speak, be fierce in claiming what you truly desire. Notice if you're speaking from defeat, lack or limitation, and shift your words.
Now some people may see the word unstoppable and feel exhausted. That's because you perceive that word as in always being in action- running, running, running.
That is not what the Wood Element teaches. See, pain pushes until vision pulls. Stay connected to the vision and let it pull you - inspire you - forward.
The biggest obstacle that gets in the way of my clients' ability to be unstoppable is not outside of you. It's not a lack of money, resources, connections or clients that keeps you from fulfilling your vision.
I say this with love. With compassion for our human self. And I say it to wake up the parts of you that may be stuck in a cycle of complaint or defeat. Remember when I asked what you were focusing on?
Well, when you feel stuck or limited, you actually are focusing on limitations. It may sound simplistic to say, "focus on your vision," but it truly is a muscle to build, in the midst of the limitations and circumstances, to choose to keep moving forward and trusting the vision, regardless of what your saboteur has to say.
But how do you handle that inner critic, or saboteur?
Handle Your Saboteur
In training coaches with CTI, we'd say there are two primary pathways to handle saboteurs – you can bypass them by saying, “Thank you for sharing, I’m more committed having my vision than I am to listening to you.” Or, you face them and get curious. Become a curious observer with your saboteur and say, “I wonder what this part of me is afraid of? I wonder what they are protecting?”
I was working with a client who realized she has a real challenge with accountability. There’s a part of her that comes up – her inner rebel - and even though she desires what she’s being asked to be accountable for, this rebel stomps her foot down and says, “You can’t tell me what to do.”
She shared something profound that her son had reflected to her. Being a mirror to her own resistance, he said, “It’s not that I don’t want to do it the way you want me to do it, it’s that if I do it your way, then my old way is wrong.” She realized that she doesn’t want to make any previous versions of herself wrong. Your old ways aren't wrong - they got you here today, but they won't support you to create the life you want now.
In getting curious with her rebel, we worked together to look at who's on the inner Board of Directors for her company. Right now, her rebel and her martyr seem to be trying to run the show. When I asked who her Inner CEO is, a whole new entity emerged.
It was her inner Shaman CEO.
Because she built a very successful business as a CPA, she thought building her coaching business would be similar. But the truth is that her new business is having her step into a whole new vision of herself, the part of her that is a healer. And, even though she still helps people shift their mindset around money and finances, she needs to empower her Inner Shaman CEO to gather the right inside team to support her. With love and respect to her rebel and martyr, they don’t fit the roles needed for this new venture.
Who's on Your Team?
I share this with you to have you check inside and see who is on your team. When you look to your vision of what you want right now, what seems to be in the way? What voice may be limiting you right now?
You have a few choices. Either stand up, stomp your foot down and say, “No, thank you. I’m more committed to my vision than to my fears or limitations.” Or, grab a friend or your coach and get curious.
Check in with your inner Board of Directors and look around the table. Is this team the ones who will hold your vision and champion you with love and support? Or will they tear you down and belittle you because you’ve never done anything like this before?
Be sure to identify and have your Inner CEO sit at the head of the table, and bring on board the parts of you that want to champion, support and commit themselves to your success, moving you into the unknown with love rather than fear.
Making yourself wrong for not building your business is a futile argument. Part of being an entrepreneur is the glorious edge-walking, fly by the seat of your pants, trusting and having faith in yourself and something so much bigger than you that is trying to live through you right now. There is no right way to do it.
Give that which is trying to live through you way more attention right now. Your life, your happiness and your future depends on it. Becoming unstoppable means forging your way around the seeming obstacles and fears, and becoming relentless in pursuit of your vision - because it's time for that vision to live, now.
